At
Westcliff Pottery I produce a variety of ceramic pieces using, wherever
possible, local Cornish materials. These including traditional and sculptural
vessels, tea bowls, plates and wall hangings, their form and decoration
often influenced by the nearby Cornish coast and shoreline. I mainly
use Cornish stoneware clay and decorating slips made from coloured clay
collected near the Fowey and Camel rivers. For glazes I add wood ash,
granite powder from De Lank quarry, local China clay and beach sand
and by using these locally found Cornish materials I have been able
to produce many unique textures and glaze effects.
