I am Cornish born, brought up on the North coast with a passion for Cornwall and ceramics.
I completed a BA Hons in Art & Design in 2020 as a mature student and have specialised in ceramics for the past 4 years, with work being shown at Lizard Art Gallery -Trelowarren; Bowji Gallery -St Keverne and have various exhibitions.
My work is a combination of hand thrown or hand-built vessels made with smooth or textured Black Clay and stoneware clays inc porcelain, with additional layers of unpredictable lava glazes, containing oxides or stains which give colour and interact with each other when applied & fired, alongside other surface decoration and traditional glazes.
Testing the lava glazes has enabled me to convey the textures and tactility of sand, eroding cliffs, the sea, moorland, and countryside. The glazing has allowed me to share the narrative of the Cornish coast, which has been added in layers to give the idea of movement to the clays surface. Some of the work has been fired 3+ times to enable the glaze to build up and give a more organic, raw, rugged appearance.
Nature is the inspiration behind my work, the colours, our coastline, and the breath-taking beauty of the South West.
